Writing ability is one of level skills from person to do expresses them ideas, thought, expressions, and feelings which use for communicating to the readers in the form of written words.Writing as process to get product influenced by some elements such as content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanic. The problem formulations of this research are; (1) Is there any different of influence of using picture series and chart media toward students writing ability at procedure text at the student SMP Negeri 2 Pekalongan in accademic year 2013/2014?, (2) Which one is more effective of using picture series and chart media toward students writing ability at procedure text at the student SMP Negeri 2 Pekalongan in accademic year 2013/2014?. The objective of this research are: (1) To know whether there is any different of influence of using picture series and chart media toward students writing ability at procedure text at the student SMP Negeri 2 Pekalongan in accademic year 2013/2014, (2) To know which one is more effective of using picture series and chart media toward students writing ability at procedure text at the student SMP Negeri 2 Pekalongan in accademic year 2013/2014. This research uses quantitative research.The research design of this research is true experimental design.The population this research is all the students of SMP Negeri 2 Pekalongan which consists of nineteen classes with 603 students in total. The researcher takes 60 students from the total population as the sample,30 students as experiment class and 30 as control class that match based on classification of student level. The researcher uses stratified random sampling as technique sampling.The data collecting technique the researcher used are try out, pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The data analysing techniques, the researcher used normality test, homogenity test and hypothesis test. The researcher got the result of tratio is 3.87 and ttable is 2.00 in criterion I, and 2,64 in criterion 2. It means that thit > ttable. The criterion of ttest is Ha accepted if thit > ttable. It means that there is significant difference by using picture series and chart media. The researcher got the result of gain ternormalisasi is (0,36>0,14). It means that X1 is higher than X2. So, picture seriesis more effective than chart media to applying writing ability at procedure text. The researcher suggested the English teacher uses picture series to encourage students’writing ability at procedure text."
