Reading as one of the four skills has always been as a part of the syllabus in teaching of English. The techniques presented as a solution in this research about Reading Comprehension is Literature Circle technique. There are three problems of the study, (1) How far is the students’ score of using Literature Circle technique? (2) How far is the students’ score of reading comprehension in narrative text? (3) How far is the result of effectiveness using Literature Circle technique to improve the students’ reading comprehension in narrative text? The objective of this research is (1) To find out the students’ score of using Literature Circle technique. (2) To find out the students’ score of reading comprehension in narrative text. (3) To find out the result of effectiveness using Literature Circle technique to improve the students’ reading comprehension in narrative text.
This research uses quantitative research. The researcher uses modified pretest-posttest control group design. In this experiment, the employees control group pre test post test design. The researcher is conducted at the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Batanghari in academic year 2013/2014. The population in this research is 140 students. It is consist 5 classes and each class consist 28. The researcher takes 56 students from total population as the sample. 28 students as experiment class of Literature Circle and 28 as control class that matching based on classification of student level. The researcher use cluster sampling as technique sampling.
To analyze data, the researcher uses of the ttest. The researher got the result thit = 4,75 higher than ttable = 2,66. So, Ha was accepted. It means that there is effectiveness of using Literature Circle technique to improve the students’ reading comprehension in narrative text at the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Batanghari in academic year 2013/2014. The suggestions are to raise the students’ Reading comprehension, it uses Literature Circle technique in instruction. The students must be fun and enjoy in using Literature Circle technique."
