Vocabulary Mastery
Vocabulary is the part of language which has the meaning. All of the words in language which have meaning are vocabulary. To master vocabulary, student should master the meaning of words. Based on the pre survey, the students’ vocabulary is low, most of the students are not interested to English subject, the students get difficulties to find new vocabulary, the students get difficulties in memorizing the word, the students have low motivation to study English. This research presented Authentic Materials as a solution in this research. This research use movie, song, magazine, brochure, you tube video, TV programmed and newspaper. The objective of this research is to know whether there is influence of using Authentic Materials toward the students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of SMK N 2 Metro in academic year 2013/2014 and to know whether Authentic Materials giving the positive influence to the students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of SMK N 2 Metro in academic year 2013/2014.
The method of investigation is held through quantitative research. The researcher uses quasy experimental research. The research is conducted at the tenth grade of SMK N 2 Metro in academic year 2013/2014. The population in this research is 393 students. It consisted 12 classes and each class consist 29 up to 35 students. The researcher takes 70 students from total population as the sample, 35 students as experiment class and 35 as control class that match based on classification of student level. The researcher uses purposive sampling as technique sampling.
To analyze data, the researcher uses T test formula. The researcher got the result of tratio is 4,81 and ttable is 2,44. It means that tratio > ttable. And the criterion of ttest is Ha accepted if tratio > ttable. So, there is positive influence of using Authentic Materials toward the students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of SMK N 2 Metro in academic year 2013/2014.The researcher expects English teacher to use Authentic Materials in teaching vocabulary."
