 The problem formulation in this research is; Is there any influence of discussion method toward writing ability in procedure text? The objective of this research is; To know whether there is any influence of discussion method toward writing ability in procedure text. The design of this research is experimental design. The kind of design is true experimental control group pre-test and post-test. The researcher took two classes namely experiment class and control class. Both of classes were given pre test and post test, but for the experiment class the researcher gives treatment first before post test by using Discussion method. And the researcher used cluster random sampling to take the sample. It is intended to get the data about the students writing ability and after that the researcher analyzed them by using ttest. The result of the test showed that there is any influence of discussion method toward students’ writing ability in proceddure text. It can be seen from the result of pre test and post test. In the pre test, the highest score of the students is 65 and the lowest score is 50. While, the score of post test showed the highest score after given treatment is 80 and the lowest score is 65. From the hypothesis it was obtained thit = 11,29 and tdaf = 2.00 and 2.66, it means that tratio > ttable, in the other words Ha is accepted. From the conclusion above the researcher gives suggestion to the teacher to use Discussion method to teach writing. With the Discussion method the students can be active, interested and enjoy to write."
